I grew up in a town called Jalostotitlán, north-east of the city of Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. There I lived with my parents and three brothers of whom I am the youngest. From my earliest days our parents made sure that we had a good Catholic upbringing. It was through my family that I learned to love our faith.

While in school I joined the parish youth group to help the poor, assist with other parish ministries and to help develop and integrate the youth ministry. Little by little through my work with youth and the priests I began to discover the call of God to follow him as a priest. I decided to enter the seminary of San Juan de los Lagos on August 16, 2002 with the dream of integrating my life in service of God and others. I finished my Philosophy studies and two years of Theology studies there.

My Theology studies affirmed my choice to be a priest and as my thoughts turned toward God as I sought to share what I had learned about the faith. At this stage I grew in my devotion to Mary and in the strength to embrace what turned out to be a mission to serve in the Diocese of Oakland. There I hope to serve the many Hispanic immigrants and help them to know God in their lives.

I am fully aware that the priesthood is a call to be a “living image” of Jesus Christ, the head and shepherd of the Church. As seminarians we must reflect in ourselves as much as possible, that human perfection that shines forth in the Son of God made man and especially was made known in his disposition toward others, as the gospels tell us.
